Denver Comic Con Welcomes Grayson Bruce, the Boy Who Stood Up
Denver (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- Denver Comic Con and Literary Conference (DCC), a program of Comic Book Classroom (CBC) designed to help engage kids in education through pop culture, today announced Grayson Bruce will participate in panels about kids overcoming adversity. Bruce is a North Carolina 10-year-old who made headlines in March due to the way his school system handled his bullying situation. District administration described Grayson’s backpack as a “trigger for bullying” and asked Grayson to not bring it to school anymore, rather than address the underlying issues.
Bruce will offer advice and answer questions from the audience in youth-focused programming at DCC. Topics will range from overcoming general adversity to talking specifically about what it’s like to be a regular kid who overcame bullying and the inherent biases in the school system to having one of the most popular Facebook pages on the Internet.
“Education isn’t just about reading, writing and arithmetic. Kids today are facing some real problems, and we can provide a forum for kids to learn from other kids they might look up to,” said Bruce MacIntosh, CBC chairman and DCC director of programming. “Because these panels are for kids—we’ll be giving our younger attendees the first opportunities to ask them questions at the panels.”
In addition to the panel appearances, Grayson will make an appearance in the CBC Kids’ Corral to talk to kids about what they like about My Little Pony and how it’s cool to be a fan – whether you’re a boy or a girl.
