Southview Design Announces Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Building
(PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- Southview Design, one of the top 25 fastest growing landscape firms in the U.S., announced it would be holding a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its future facility at 2383 Pilot Knob Rd., Mendota Heights on Mon., June 2, 10 a.m.
Mendota Heights city council members and city planners will attend the ceremony, along with key representatives from Benson-Orth General Contractors, Architectural Consortium, Anderson-Urlacher PA and Southview Design. The building was designed by Architectural Consortium LLC with structural engineering by Anderson-Urlacher PA. Benson-Orth General Contractors is handling construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“We simply outgrew the facility we’re in,” said Chris Clifton, president of Southview Design. “While we were committed to staying in the area, we couldn’t find a facility that could accommodate us.” Clifton explained that unlike most businesses, Southview Design requires a significant amount of outdoor space for its fleet of vehicles, trailers, trucks and equipment. “We work throughout the entire Twin Cities metro area and western Wisconsin so we chose a more centrally located spot for our new home.”
The new facility will be situated on a little over three acre plot of land that will include 9,000 square feet of office space, plus an 8,000 square foot warehouse and greenhouse to house plants, flowers and other materials for Southview Design’s fine gardening division. Together with the office building, these facilities total 17,200 square feet. About 40 Southview Design staff will work in the office building, but Southview Design also employs 85 to 90 seasonal workers who are typically out on the job on any given day.
Most of the landscaping around the new facilities will be completed this year. Clifton said the design process was a collaborative one involving several of Southview Design’s landscape designers. “Although Southview Design specializes in residential landscape design, this design enhances the commercial architecture of the building,” Clifton said.
Clifton said they’ve also devised a creative eco-friendly solution for water management. The plan includes two large rain gardens to manage drainage and contain storm water onsite. “Rain gardens, planted with deep-rooted plants and grasses, capture rainwater runoff, preventing it from reaching the sewer systems, lakes, and rivers,” he said.
