Museum Overview

The Museum has many exhibitions showcasing creative camera work from a wide range of ages. It even hosts annual contests where aspiring youths residing in San Diego can submit theme based images which are judged for quality and presented among other photographs or films. After undergoing renovations in March of 2000, the museum now has 32,000 square feet which consist of galleries, Jacobs’ Theater, a print-viewing room, archival facilities, and support areas with informative employees. The upcoming 2014 contest will focus on the theme of family and is expected to have its largest turnout yet. San Diego’s Museum of Photographic Arts also offers film screenings from a variety of local and international film festivals on a regular basis. These screenings cover many different cultures and countries, allowing viewers to learn about the amazing diversity of film found throughout the world.
