Doctors Express Phoenix Becomes Fully Certified to Provide DOT Physical Examinations

As of April 2014, every physician in the Phoenix clinic was certified to perform the physical, providing a unified safety benchmark for professional drivers to ensure road safety. The certification material was presented in an online course provided by the National Academy of DOT Examiners. Successful completion of a final test was required for certification.
As for the physical itself, patients must demonstrate certain basic physical capacities in order to pass. These capacities include visual acuity (with or without corrections such as glasses or contact lenses), color discernment, auditory acuity, blood pressure (below a certain range, with or without prescription medication to maintain the threshold), and a blood sugar level below 200. Diabetes controlled through medication or diet is allowed, but if the condition can only be managed through insulin injections, the patient will not pass the exam.
