Dynamic Duo Return to Durham to Teach Acting Workshop
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 30, 2014 -- Angela Ray of Mahogany Dime LLC is teaming up with Dilsey Davis of Cafe con Leche Media. The two will present the Book More Acting Work Seminar on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, North Carolina from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This is not the first time the two entertainment professionals have worked together. In 2000, they brought life to the roles of Detective Burns and Shelby respectively in the independent thriller, Infamy. Eight years later, the two presided as co-chairs of the Hayti Heritage Film Festival, the longest running African American Film Festival in the United States.
Ray is no stranger to performing. Some of her film and television credits include Tyler Perry's Love Thy Neighbor, One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, and Louis, where she played the role of Louis Armstrong's mother. She's a produced playwright with two full-length plays, Loved Ones, and Aluta Continua, which was presented as a part of the University of North Carolina's Bicentennial Celebration. An experienced instructor, she has taught drama for Duke Youth Programs, the Upward Bound Program at UNC, Walltown Children's Theatre and SpiritHouse. A multi-award winning performance poet, she has shared the stage and opened for a number of big names including Danny Glover, Vivica A. Fox, Debbie Allen, and Malcolm Jamal Warner.
"Dilsey and I always support each other's projects, whether we're auditioning for a film, rewriting a script or performing," Ray said. So it's a special treat for me when we get to create a program together. It's a bonus that we get to go back to the Hayti Heritage Center to do that program."
Davis is also a multifaceted artist. As an actress, she has studied in New York, LA and Atlanta. She is an award-winning film director with two short films, Wedding Day and The Other Side. She produced and directed the award-winning telenovela series, Nuestro Barrio, the first Spanish Language series to air on English Language television in the United States. The show eventually aired in 25 million homes across the country. She's also served as a producer and casting director, working alongside agents to book talent from the Carolinas to Atlanta. Currently, Davis is in the final stages of development to direct her first feature film, which is scheduled for preproduction this fall.
"Coming back home to North Carolina to teach emerging actors is a priority for me at this stage in my career," Davis said. "Working and learning with the Atlanta Chapter of SAG-AFTRA has afforded me a lot of opportunities. The entertainment industry in Atlanta is growing almost daily and I am thrilled to share all the insight that I'm gaining from this growth."
Book More Acting Work is Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Hayti Heritage Center, located at 804 Old Fayetteville Street in the heart of Durham. The investment for the workshop is only $99.00.
