I'm particularly pleased as we were up against two companies who are regarded as major players in the industry.

Safety Gas Detection is located in Leyland, Lancashire.

The Lancashire based gas alarm system company boasts many blue chip clients including: The University of Liverpool, The University of Wales Institute Cardiff, Lancaster University, University College London and Nanoco Technologies.

The co2 detection specialists also work with businesses who use large refrigerators and car park companies who need to monitor carbon monoxide levels.

“We were thrilled to hear that we had been successful in winning the tender as all the team had put in a lot of hours to make sure ours was the winning bid,” said Tim Holmes (Managing Director of Safety Gas Detection Limited).

He added, “I'm particularly pleased as we were up against two companies who are regarded as major players in the industry.”

"This won't be the largest project we have worked on, but it will be a really important one as it is within the nuclear industry, which is an area we haven't worked in before,” explained Mr. Holmes.

According to The DCF's website:

“The Dalton Cumbrian Facility (DCF) is a state-of-the-art research base of The University of Manchester's Dalton Nuclear Institute, specifically designed as a national user facility. We provide academia and industry with the opportunity to carry out high-end research in radiation science and nuclear engineering decommissioning, incorporating academic access to the active research facilities within National Nuclear Laboratory Central Laboratory on the Sellafield site. Situated on Westlakes Science & Technology Park in West Cumbria, the DCF is at the heart of the UK's largest concentration of nuclear facilities and expertise, and exists as a unique scientific research base that stands out among its European counterparts.”

Safety Gas Detection were selected due to:

1. Being the only supplier invited who was able to collaborate with the university on a risk assessment based gas detection design for the number and location of oxygen sensors.

2. Having a proven track record of quality installation within the department (different site), especially around sensitive equipment.

3. Possessing the ability to deliver the full installation of the products within a very tight project time frame.

4. Being competitively priced.

5. Offering a comprehensive maintenance and warranty package.

The system controller installed by the oxygen depletion equipment providers was the Safe Guard Ultimate, which included a colour touch screen interface and data logging facility.

“All of our our oxygen depletion systems are made right here in the UK and are available with a comprehensive 6- year warranty package,” explained Mr. Holmes.

Tim's business also maintains, supplies and installs CO2 detection systems, carbon monoxide alarms, CO gas detection equipment and carbon dioxide sensors.

In addition the Lancashire safety gas specialists also monitor flammable, toxic and refrigeration gases.
