Austin, TX (PRWEB) May 30, 2014

Upland Software, a leading provider of cloud-based enterprise work management applications, today announced that it has been recognized as Visionary in Gartner, Inc.’s latest “Magic Quadrant for Cloud-Based IT Project and Portfolio Management Services.”

The Magic Quadrant evaluated 11 vendors of cloud-based IT PPM software in terms of their Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. The report marks the debut placement of Upland Software on the Magic Quadrant. The two Upland IT PPM applications evaluated in this research are EPM Live and PowerSteering.

“Some Visionaries have been more experimental with business models, and they may approach various markets more broadly, with variable packaging and pricing,” the authors explain in elaborating on the differences between Visionaries and other vendors. “Completeness of Vision ratings of Visionaries reflect innovative approaches in areas such as collaboration, social networking, mobile device support, interoperability with third-party data sources and group-specific collaboration.”

In addition to vendor evaluations, the Magic Quadrant examined larger trends in the overall IT PPM software market. The research states that “Demand for IT PPM software continues to grow.” Specific to demand for cloud-based services, the authors comment that, “We are seeing iterations of traditional on-premises PPM software products being replaced by the newer offerings covered in this research.”

In the report, Gartner also observes that there are two main types of PPM buyers: execution-level and portfolio-level IT PPM customers. “Project portfolio-level IT PPM customers are mainly interested in enhancing the data sharing, collaboration, and communication between project managers and business sponsors and any roles in between,” the authors describe. “Consequently, project portfolio-level IT PPM customers will often look for a top-down, stand-alone system in which the ‘portfolio management’ features and capabilities are not centered on or dependent on task- and assignment-level time reporting and detailed project schedule management, as is often the case with execution-level IT PPM configurations.”

Upland believes these observations reinforce the company’s strategy to provide a family of best-of-breed applications tailored to specific needs while collectively capable of addressing a comprehensive range of enterprise work management requirements. By making its cloud applications connectable to one another or other third-party systems through a common integration platform, Upland helps empower user adoption and productivity by providing the right tool for the right job, while enabling customers to achieve the “single source of truth” required for agile decision making. IT organizations, for example, can deploy PowerSteering for top-down program and portfolio management or EPM Live for execution-level project management and collaboration, depending on the focus and scope of the IT PMO. For holistic, real-time visibility and transparency, CIOs can also combine Upland’s PPM tools with ComSci, Upland’s IT Financial Management application.

“We are proud to be recognized as Visionary in Upland’s inaugural placement in the Magic Quadrant for Cloud-based IT Project & Portfolio Management Services,” commented Ludwig Melik, President of Upland Software. “We believe this validates our unique approach of offering innovative solutions that can be used in stand-alone fashion or deployed together to truly optimize resource allocation, execution and costs across the entire IT portfolio.”

Upland views the Visionary recognition in the Gartner Magic Quadrant as adding to the growing list of awards and accolades garnered by its IT PPM applications in 2014. PowerSteering was named an Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management “Visionary” by Info-Tech Research Group and received a 4.5 star rating (out of 5 stars) in an independent review by GetApp, while EPM Live has been recognized as a SIIA Software CODiE Award Finalist for Best Project Management Solution, received the 2014 Smart Choice Award for Project Management Software from FindtheBest.com, and most recently has been nominated as an American Business Award Finalist in the category of New Product or Service of the Year – Project Management Solution.
