New CTO appointment, strategic partnerships, and a focus on Right-time Correlated Network Analytics drive company’s portfolio expansion and transformation strategy.

NetBoss Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of network management and service assurance solutions to network operators around the world, unveiled details of its new portfolio transformation initiative, known as NetBoss. Now, at TM Forum Live! in Nice, France. The company first referenced its new strategy last month when it announced the appointment of industry veteran John Lee as CTO and provided additional information when it recently announced that it had signed strategic Value-added Reseller (VAR) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) deals with several partners to extend its product portfolio, but full details had not been shared until today.

“At NetBoss Technologies, our vision is to enable you to understand everything; everything about your customers, your business operations, and the performance of your networks,” said John Lee, NetBoss CTO. “When you say ‘everything’ today, that also means many other things, including: a) how is the customer experience impacted, and b) what are the financial implications? NetBoss. Now is an integrated portfolio of right-time correlated network analytics and OSS solutions designed to drive Communications Service Provider (CSP) profitability by enabling them to proactively monitor, manage, and monetize their customers, the services they subscribe to, and the networks that support them. It’s all about the money.”

The heart of the NetBoss. Now portfolio is a SOA-compliant OSS Reference Model and solutions framework technically comprised of two interactive product suites: 1) NetBoss Intelligence. Now and 2) NetBoss Assurance.Now. While most of the software was developed by NetBoss, the company also supplemented its portfolio through strategic partner arrangements.

NetBoss Intelligence. Now is comprised of an Enterprise Portal/Executive Dashboard Graphical User Interface (GUI) and SOA-compliant layer supporting the NetBoss Correlation Engine (formerly NetBoss Statewise) and a NetBoss Analytics platform. The Intelligence. Now architecture allows for external data sources, such as BSS data, to be integrated into the correlation streams to enable definition and visibility of the subscriber-specific relationships with the network (data usage, revenue generation, SLAs, etc.) and operational process (provisioning, trouble management, etc.).

Intelligence. Now’s Analytics Value Packs (VPs) organize and filter the hundreds of available KPIs, KQIs, and other analytics information into more functionally-specific packages to enable the user to look at the information from a pre-defined operational “perspective.” At the top level, Intelligence. Now defines value packs representing the customer perspective, the business process perspective, and the network perspective. CSPs can customize their perspectives even further in order to get the exact information they need to do their jobs.

“With Over-the-Top (OTT) internet services eating into their core revenue streams, every one of our customers wants to know how we can help them reinvent their business models,” said Jim Odom, President and Chief Executive Officer of NetBoss Technologies. With the help of strategic partners, we have developed a visionary portfolio and corporate strategy that we believe will be a game changer for both NetBoss and our customers. The capability to finally relate real-time network utilization as dollars and cents instead of bits and bytes, and understanding the opportunity cost of each megabyte could very well change everything for CSPs, from their product catalogs, to their marketing, to the way they cooperate (or don’t) with the Over-the-Top providers.”

NetBoss Assurance. Now is a pre-integrated suite of modular applications covering the major Service Assurance domains of Trouble Management, Fault Management, Performance Management, Workforce Management, and Inventory Management delivering single point or end-to-end (E2E) monitoring and management of the CSP's entire network operations arena. Each of the Assurance. Now modules is a fully featured carrier-grade Operations Support System that has been deployed in major CSPs across the world.

The Assurance. Now Suite was designed to leverage and build upon almost two decades of Service Assurance experience with the NetBoss traditional products: NetBoss Manage.IT, NetBoss XT, NetBoss Performance, and NetBoss StateWise deployed at approximately 200 customer sites worldwide. By extending the portfolio to include additional capabilities for Trouble Management and Workforce Management, in addition to in-house development of a Virtual Service Discovery/Inventory capability, NetBoss is able to provide the full E2E spectrum of Service Assurance functionality.

“The rationale behind the NetBoss. Now portfolio is brilliant,” said Paul Morrissey, Chair of the TM Forum Big Data Analytics Group. “NetBoss has decades of experience doing real-time network monitoring through their NetBoss XT and NetBoss Performance products. More recently, they’ve done some very innovative service impact and root-cause correlation with StateWise. The extension into Analytics is the logical next step and extremely synergistic. By correlating the real-time network usage and performance data that their applications have traditionally delivered with customer, SLA, and billing data real-time, then applying advanced analytics capabilities, they could produce an entirely new class of information that could really help CSPs optimize the profitability of their networks.”
