Global Relay President & General Counsel Shannon Rogers Winner of the Sara Kirke Award for Woman Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Vancouver, B.C. (PRWEB) June 03, 2014 -- Shannon Rogers, President & General Counsel for Global Relay, was presented with the 2014 Sara Kirke Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the 29th Annual CATAAlliance Innovation and Leadership Awards Gala Dinner for 2014. This award recognizes her entrepreneurial work in technology and contributions to Global Relay’s international success. CATAAlliance, the Canadian Advanced Technology Association, is the largest technology association in Canada.
"Our Award winners have each demonstrated significant leadership, serving as role models for the development of successful enterprises in Canada,” said John Reid, President and CEO, CATAAlliance. “CATA is proud to act as an advocate for them, to share their stories, and to provide a platform of programs and services to assist in fostering their growth."
Presented by CanWit (Canadian Women in Technology), the Ernst & Young Sara Kirke Award is named after Sara Kirke, North America’s first female entrepreneur, who operated a plantation business in the 1660s.
“I’m honoured to be following in the footsteps of such a long legacy of driven and independent Canadian women entrepreneurs,” said Rogers. “Thank you CanWit, CATAAlliance and Ernst & Young for continuing to recognize the contributions, skill, and drive of women in technology and business.”
Rogers’ path to success has not been traditional. In 2003, she made the leap from a corporate legal career to Global Relay - then a small start-up. Despite numerous obstacles, Rogers worked with CEO & Founder Warren Roy to build the business into an international success story. Today, Global Relay is a 325+ employee, trusted global service provider to the world's most prestigious banks and financial firms, delivering services to 18,000 organizations in 90 countries.
The Sarah Kirke Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is the latest of a series of awards and recognition for Rogers; she recently won the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur 2013 – Telus Trailblazer award; the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2013 in Business-to-Business for the Pacific Region as well as the EY Special Citation in Entrepreneurial Leadership; the Western Canada General Counsel 2013 Business Achievement award; BIV’s 2013 Influential Women in Business Award, and "Top 10 Influential Women in BC Tech" (BC Tech Magazine 2013). She has also ranked in the ProfitW100 as one of the top three Canadian women entrepreneurs for three years running.
