Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Scheduled to Celebrate Opening of Bastrop’s Hope Peer Support Center
Monroe, LA (PRWEB) June 06, 2014 -- Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (Northeast Delta HSA), The Extra Mile and the Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce announce today a Ribbon Cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Bastrop’s Hope Peer Support Center. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. at 218 N. Franklin Street in Bastrop.
Dorothy Ford, Executive Director of the Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce, will welcome guests and introduce local officials, including Bastrop Mayor Arthur E. Jones, Northeast Delta HSA executive Director Dr. Monteic A. Sizer and Center founders. A reception and Center tour will follow the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We are very pleased to welcome the Bastrop’s Hope Peer Support Center to Morehouse Parish,” said Ms. Ford. “So many people will benefit from the services they will provide and this will give people hope for a more rich and fulfilling future.”
Peer support centers are recovery-oriented, consumer-directed centers where citizens develop and utilize programs to supplement existing mental health services and further engage in their own recovery process. Centers are managed by people who have reached an understanding of their own mental health issues and can serve as peers to others. Peer center programs include support groups, activities that provide opportunities for socialization, personal and educational enrichment, and peer support. The Extra Mile, managed by Northeast Delta HSA, currently operates Peer Support Centers in Monroe and Ruston.
“Bastrop’s Hope Peer Support Center is an important recovery component for our citizens with mental health, substance abuse and development disability issues,” said Dr. Sizer. “We are strategically placing additional Hope Centers throughout the 12-parish northeastern Louisiana region that we serve,” Dr. Sizer said. “These centers give community residents an opportunity to learn, grow and receive additional services throughout our targeted areas.”
