Tely Labs Helps Outdoor Network Stay Connected with Affordable, Easy-to-Use Video Conferencing

Outdoor Network is a retailer focused on the outdoor enthusiast market, selling items from motorcycle parts to high-end fishing boats in five stores located in Georgia, Florida and Rhode Island. The retail chain’s distribution warehouse and call center is located in Georgia, with the owner, CEO, and website programmer, working from remote locations.
As is the case with many other companies, Outdoor Network’s management and staff need to work together on a regular basis to monitor continuously changing inventory levels and sell-through rates for dozens of items at each of the five store locations. Because of the distance between the remote employees, management often found it difficult to effectively collaborate.
“We were emailing spreadsheets around, and then reviewing them together on conference calls,” said Stuart Harden, IT Manager of Outdoor Network. “It was hard to know whether everyone on a call was looking at the same data, or even really paying attention. When sidebar conversations inevitably came up in a conference room at one location, the rest of us weren’t sure who was saying what.”
To help bridge the distance gap and aid productivity, Harden thought it was appropriate to find a better method for communication. After failed attempts with web-based video calling on employees’ personal computers and some consideration to build video conferencing workstations at each different location, Harden found out about Tely Labs’s telyHD Pro. Because of the simplicity of the all-in-one video conferencing device, Harden was able to ship one to each location where employees could setup and use the appliances themselves, without needing any IT help.
Now, there are six Outdoor Networks locations configured with a telyHD Pro, a 60” TV and external audio devices. All of the locations use their telyHD Pros to join their weekly operations video calls and in ad hoc calls throughout the week. Outdoor Network also makes use of telyCloud, the bundled cloud conference service from Tely Labs, to host their video meetings with up to six participants, plus wireless content sharing from a Mac or PC.
As a result, Outdoor Network found the solution to keep their operations team on the same page, despite their different geographical locations.
