MD Now® Urgent Care Offers Measles Vaccine in Response to CDC Warning

Dr. Richard Besser, former acting director of the CDC and currently ABC’s chief medical editor, warns that, “Measles is wildly infectious,” and the number of cases this year is, “the most since the virus was eliminated in the U.S. back in 2000.” The New York Times attributes the rise to unvaccinated Amish missionaries from Ohio who traveled to the Philippines and the large number of unvaccinated children from an area in San Diego.
The CDC’s Dr. Anne Schuchat explains, “Measles anywhere in the world can reach our communities, and unvaccinated Americans are at risk.” She adds, “Our key message today is that we can stop this from being an even greater problem.”
