Stevie Ray Vaughan had a way of attacking his instrument which I have not seen anyone do with as much conviction ever.

“One of my favorite guitar players is Stevie Ray Vaughan,” says Darville, “Stevie Ray Vaughan had a way of attacking his instrument which I have not seen anyone do with as much conviction ever.” Jacques says that he did this by putting a lot of feeling and conviction into it and he basically means what he plays. Jacques says that you can borrow the technical aspects to develop your own style and also add your own power and aggression to your own blues playing. Jacques demonstrates this with the riff from the song Cold Shot as follows; open 4th string to the 3rd fret with first finger back to the open string to the 5th fret with 3rd finger and then back to the open string and ends the riff with 5th fret of the 3rd string with 3rd finger to the 3rd fret with first finger. He uses a very heavy muting technique to get a very percussive sound from the surrounding strings; a staple of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s playing.
