Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured the DTI-954, a natural gas heated indexing conveyor oven that heat treats suspension components for a Tier 1 automotive supplier. Prior to commissioning the DTI-954, the customer heat treated the products using inefficient batch processes. In contrast, The DTI-954 indexing conveyor oven enables Davron’s customer to process their parts in rows of six across the width of the oven. Parts are loaded into individual custom product trays and indexed through the heated chamber. The DTI-954 is capable of processing 720 parts (10,800 pounds) per hour.

The DTI-954 features four zones of temperature control in the heated chamber. Each zone is individually controlled, to enable flexibility in the temperature profile, and utilizes its own natural gas burner and circulation fan. The DTI-954 also includes four exhaust fans to meet NFPA standards for gas-fired equipment. The maximum operating temperature is 800ᴼF. The DTI-954 features PLC control and all motion functions are controlled by servo for accuracy and speed. The oven includes an exhaust hood (with exhaust fan) on the entrance and exit ends of the oven. This prevents heat from escaping to the work space and saves resources required to condition the area around the oven. The indexed conveying system includes four positions for loading and unloading product on both the entrance and exit ends of the oven.

The useable dimensions of the DTI-954 are 15’3” wide x 1’5” high x 66’4” long. The interior of the oven is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by eight inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed of 16-gauge carbon steel backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high-temperature paint. The oven features fourteen access doors that provide explosion relief and access to the heated chamber. The design of the DTI-954 includes eight modules with mating flanges that bolt together for final assembly. This allows the oven to be broken down for shipment and travel through the plant to the final location. The conveying system features oven class chains with attachments that accommodate the custom product trays.

Davron designed the DTI-954 indexing conveyor oven based on three criteria provided by the customer: the production rate, the product size, and the temperature profile for the heat treating process. Once the indexing conveyor oven was manufactured, Davron did extensive acceptance testing and training with the customer at Davron headquarters in Chattanooga, Tenn., prior to shipment. The oven was then disassembled, prepared and packaged for shipment, and installed at the customer’s facility by Davron personnel.
