Conservative Republicans of Texas Organize Defense of Texas Marriage Amendment Rally
Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) June 04, 2014 -- Conservative Republicans of Texas (CRT), the largest Republican PAC in Texas, has organized the Defense of Texas Marriage Amendment rally at the Texas Republican State Convention, Thursday, June 5th, 2014 at the Omni Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas at 7:30pm.
This rally is in response to the decision of San Antonio federal district judge, Orlando Garcia, who rejected the will of the people of Texas and arbitrarily ruled that the Texas Constitution Marriage Amendment was unconstitutional on February 26, 2014, creating new law from the bench and redefining marriage.
The citizens of Texas in the November 8, 2005 general election, passed, by a margin of three to one, 76% to 24%, a Marriage Amendment to the Texas Constitution, Article 1, Section 32, which provides that: “Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.”
Over 180 state and federal officeholders from Texas, as well as Texas Republican Party officials, have cosponsored this event with the stated purpose of asserting Texas’ state sovereignty over its laws and constitution.
President and founder of CRT, Steven F. Hotze, M.D., stated:
“Overturning the Marriage Amendment would coerce and compel every Texas citizen, house of worship and business to recognize and affirm homosexual and other deviant relationships as morally and legally equivalent to marriage, violating and discriminating against the rights of the majority to freedom of speech and freedom of religion.” Dr. Hotze further stated: “Enough is enough. For a judge to tell Texas that its Constitution’s Marriage Amendment is ‘unconstitutional’ is patently absurd. For a single judge to redefine marriage in the State of Texas is a dangerous precedent, which, if allowed to stand, would unravel the social fabric of our state.
“With this event, we are launching a petition that tells the federal government that Texas is drawing a line in the sand, just like 173 men drew a line in the sand at The Alamo to keep Texas free. What we are saying is ‘don’t mess with Texas.’”
Senator Ted Cruz, Senator John Cornyn, candidate for Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, candidate for Attorney General Ken Paxton and megachurch Pastor Steve Riggle will all be speaking.
