They will be led into this game with the 69th ranked El Salvador team by veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defender Sergio Ramos, midfielders Xabi Alonso, Xavi Hernandez, Andrés Iniesta and forwards Fernando Torres and David Villa. The team is filled with some of the best players in the world at each position and the team will use this matchup against the lower ranked team to work on their strategy for the tournament.
While Spain will use this matchup to prepare themselves to repeat as champions, El Salvador will hope to play spoiler and ruin their confidence. They have qualified for two World Cup tournaments in the past, but did not reach the tournament this year. The team will be led into this game with the best team in the world with a team that is one of the youngest and least experienced. Xavier Garcia leads the current roster in caps with 39, while Jaime Alas and Lester Blanco each have 33 caps, and Rafael Burgos and Andres Flores each have 31.
Later this month, Spain will compete in Group B where their biggest test should come from the Netherlands. Also in their group are Chile and Australia.
Fedex Field is the home of the Washington Redskins from the National Football League. The venue originally opened in 1997 and is usually filled with some of the most proud football fans in the league. When the best soccer team in the world plays El Salvador here on June 7, there will be different group of fans that are still enjoying every second of action.
