CarePoint Health Lunch and Learn Lecture Series Presents: “Live Sun Smart”
Hudson County, NJ (PRWEB) June 07, 2014 -- CarePoint Health has partnered with the Live SunSmart Foundation to present the next event in the Lunch and Learn free lecture series: “Live Sun Smart”. The community is invited for lunch and a fascinating lecture to learn about how to stay safe and healthy in the sun during the summer months. The events will take place at all three CarePoint Health hospitals in June.
Everyone wants to have fun in the sun during the summer, but it’s important to enjoy the sun safely. Prolonged exposure to the sun puts people at risk for melanoma, and yet, this is the most curable form of cancer when found early. Live SunSmart is a presentation for community members 12 years and older to learn about the importance of being “SunSmart”. The presentation will explore how to take precautions when engaging in sports, outdoor activities, and daily living. Early detection of melanoma is important, so participants will be encouraged to be proactive and to seek out skin screenings.
This important event will be presented by Teri Festa, who serves as the Executive Director of the Live SunSmart Foundation. The organization seeks to promote healthy fun in the sun while raising awareness of skin cancer in order to save lives. The mission of the Live SunSmart Foundation is to teach everyone – no matter their race, color, age, gender or ethnicity – how to live safely with the sun by making the application of sunscreen and other sun safe practices a normal part of people’s everyday routine.
The CarePoint Health Lunch and Learn program is part of an ongoing series that brings together community members to learn about the specialties, research and critical work being performed at Bayonne Medical Center, Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital. Each event will feature a prominent health care leader and will include a free lunch for attendees.
