When Roadmaster Drivers School CDL Instructor, Anthony Marshall, woke up on what seemed to be just another Wednesday morning to go to work, he had no idea he was going to end the day in heroic fashion.
On May 28th, Anthony Marshall (CDL Training Instructor) and James Hunt (Roadmaster Student) were in the middle of behind-the-wheel training driving on Interstate 95, when another semi-truck drove past them and started to veer off to the left, forcing Student Driver Hunt to brake. Once the driver of the swerving vehicle realized he was going off the road he pulled the wheel back to the right, flipping the truck on its side. Hunt drove the Roadmaster training truck safely over to the I-95 shoulder and stopped. Truck Driving Instructor Marshall grabbed the fire extinguisher from the Roadmaster truck and ran towards the overturned vehicle. Marshall and another passerby who pulled over after seeing the overturned semi, took turns busting out the window to get the driver of the flipped truck out safely. “I am so proud of our Instructors! They are the best in the field of truck driver training. Our students at Roadmaster are sought from top trucking carriers throughout the U.S. because of the skill set and focus on safety they receive from Roadmaster's professional CDL training and behind-the-wheel preparation,” stated John E. Kearney, President & CEO, Roadmaster Drivers School.
Mr. Marshall stated that minutes prior to the accident he was explaining to his students that “you never snatch the wheel in the truck and not two minutes has passed and they saw first hand what can happen.” School Director of Roadmaster Drivers School of North Carolina, Inc., Gary Johnson, personally thanked Mr. Marshall for pulling over and doing the right thing, Mr. Marshall’s response was “I would want somebody to do that for me.”
