• ABIA Synergy Seminar features international expert working with local leaders on violence prevention and response strategies
- Interactive 90-minute session encourages participation by those in attendance on actionable paths to solutions
The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA) will gather public safety professionals Tuesday, June 10, for a robust dialogue on ways to address and prevent violence in public settings like schools, hospitals and workplaces. The ABIA Synergy Seminar – “Stop the Violence Now” – is from 4-5:30 p.m., at ABIA, 47 N. Main Street, Akron, and is free and open to the public.
Leading the event is Colonel (Ret.) Professor Isaac Ashkenazi, former Surgeon General for the Israeli Defense Force Home Front Command and former Director of the Urban Terrorism Preparedness Project at the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, a joint program of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Kennedy School. Dr. Ashkenazi, who also has worked with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is considered one of the world’s foremost experts in medical preparedness for complex emergencies and disasters.
After a brief presentation on the topic, Ashkenazi will be joined in the conversation by Summa Health System Chief of Protective Services David Davis, Akron General Medical Center Head of Security Dan Beaver, Akron Police Sergeant Mike Williams and Akron Public Schools Director of Student Services and Security Dan Rambler.
ABIA offers its Synergy Seminar to provide interactive space where problem and solution owners can come together and work jointly on innovative, patient-centered projects. Differing from a routine speech or presentation, the Synergy Seminar platform creates an environment where clearly defined problems or trends are presented by an esteemed speaker and then those in attendance are engaged to develop possible, entrepreneurial and actionable solutions.
Registration for the event is required. For more event information or to register, please contact Rita Filer at 330-572-7553, rfiler(at)abiakron(dot)org.
