New features added to referral marketing platform ahead of updated Canadian Anti-Spam Legislature.

RewardStream, a referral marketing software and services provider today announced the launch of new features in its core software, Spark™, to comply with the changing Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) coming into effect on July 1, 2014. The new legislature will replace the existing Bill C-28 and require strict adherence to opt-in and opt-out protocols pertaining to commercial electronic messages.

The legislation governs commercial electronic messages (CEM) which can include email, SMS text messages, instant messages and messages sent through social networks. CASL defines a CEM as a message that encourages participation in a commercial activity. Referral marketing, defined as a message being sent by a customer on behalf of a commercial offering has defined exemptions but is still largely governed by the legislature, specifically in regards to user “opt-in” and “opt-out” protocols. RewardStream has introduced several new features and process changes to its referral marketing software, Spark™ to ensure CASL compliance for all of its Canadian clients as well as US clients who have customers in Canada.
