Super(fluous) the Series Launches Kickstarter Campaign
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 06, 2014 -- In a world filled with actors, what do three recent MFA graduates do when they finish school? Create their own very own web series about superheros … in a world filled with superheros. That’s the concept behind Super(fluous) the Series, a web series that explores the journey of three superheros/roommates trying to make their mark fighting crime when the world is saturated with crime fighters.
The story was conceived and created by Siobhan Doherty, Sean Harrigan and Sonya Cooke. Cooke is the owner and head teacher of The Actor’s Studio of Orange County, while Doherty and Harrigan are two of the studio’s teachers. The three were all graduates of UC Irvine’s MFA acting program. Harrigan and Doherty acted as the writers for Super(fluous), and will serve as executive producers for the first season.
The series will be entirely financed by crowd-funding support through the web site Kickstarter, which allows “friends, fans and inspired strangers” to pledge money to projects that they’re interested in. Doherty says this was the perfect pairing with a story about underdogs. “This project wouldn’t be possible without Kickstarter. It lets us tell a story we’re passionate about, and it lets others be a part of creating something they believe in.”
Doherty and Harrigan will play two of the series’ lead roles: Madeline and Sam, both roommates in the superhero household. They recently announced that the third lead and roommate, Delia, would be played by Keiko Agena, best known for her role as Lane Kim in the popular TV show Gilmore Girls. Agena has also guest starred in shows such as Shameless, Scandal, Twisted, House, ER and Without a Trace.
Joining them as other series regulars will be Amber Friendly and Lucas Calhoun, both also graduates of UC Irvine’s MFA program. Friendly recently appeared in the feature film, The Veil starring Jessica Alba, and has been seen on shows such as New Girl, Grey’s Anatomy and Parks and Recreation. Calhoun, who will also direct the first season, was a long time performer and teacher at iO West and also a member of the comedy troupe Danger Danger.
The 8000 dollars the project is raising will be used to give high production values to a comparatively low-budget series. Helping create those high production values will be Seth Johnson, cinematographer of the award-winning web series Pairings.
Donations can be made at the series’ Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1647092170/superfluous-the-series-season-1. Supporters of the project can give the amount that works for them, and receive exciting rewards in return including drawings from some of the cast, walk-on roles and even a reservation for a Superhero flight workshop, taught at ASOOC. The Kickstarter campaign lasts until June 21st.
