Hannon also brings experience managing domestic and foreign trademark portfolios, and preparing and prosecuting copyright applications, with a particular emphasis on works covering “useful articles”. He has significant experience with opinion and transactional practice, including license agreements and supplier/manufacturer and due diligence for corporate transactions. Hannon also has experience in intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution, having served on the trial counsel team in successful federal copyright infringement trials. He has also represented clients in civil counterfeiting, domain name anti-cybersquatting claims, patent litigation, trade secret litigation, and domain name arbitration proceedings.
Christopher Francis is a Senior Associate specializing in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications as well as counseling clients on a full spectrum of intellectual property matters. A former General Motors engineer, Francis advises clients on strategically building and maintaining patent and trademark portfolios based on client product lines and business plans. He has prepared and prosecuted mechanical and electrical patent applications and also counsels clients on patent issues including freedom to operate investigations, infringement and validity opinions, and designing products around patents owned by competitors. Francis also assists clients with intellectual property due diligence investigations during mergers and acquisitions. Francis is currently the First Vice President of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.
George Schooff joins the firm as Of Counsel, bringing more than 20 years of intellectual property litigation experience to the firm. Schooff has successfully litigated intellectual property disputes across many technologies and the full spectrum of intellectual property rights. He has managed patent infringement matters, trademark and unfair competition cases from discovery through final judgment, achieving substantial awards for his clients in both judge and jury trials. He has appeared and argued before the Federal and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal, United States District Courts around the country, and the United States Patent Office. He has also recovered dozens of domain names through ICANN proceedings.
“We are pleased to expand our firm by adding these three exceptional intellectual property attorneys,” said Firm Member Charles Bieneman. “David Hannon, Chris Francis and George Schooff will allow our growing firm to serve our clients well in the full spectrum of intellectual property practice, including litigation and administrative judicial proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.”
