SAE International Announces Membership to UK Access Management Federation, Upgrade to Shibboleth for Digital Library
Warrendale, Pa. (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- SAE International, a publisher of industry leading research and standards, is pleased to announce its membership to the UK Access Management Federation, enabling us to provide Shibboleth authentication on its premier Digital Library platform.
The SAE Digital Library offers the most cost-effective way to access more than 130,000 full-text technical papers, standards, ebooks, and magazines from SAE International and other renowned organizations. The search engine and user-friendly layout make it easy for researchers to find, download, and share a wealth of current and historical content.
Shibboleth is a standards based, open source software package enabling web-based single sign-on authentication across or within organizational boundaries. It allows institutions to make informed authorization decisions for individual access of protected online resources in a privacy-preserving manner. The Shibboleth® technology delivers single sign-on and federated administration of protected resources. Information is exchanged between an SAE International customer (Identity Provider) and the SAE Digital Library platform (Service Provider), allowing seamless access to SAE Digital Library content without providing additional login credentials.
“We are delighted to be part of the Shibboleth technology solution. This deployment will be a significant improvement to our customer's experience with the Digital Library platform,” Nigel Watts, Senior Product Manager for SAE International, said. “Getting the knowledge for which SAE International is renowned in the hands of students and faculty in now easier than ever; helping to further the mission and vision of SAE International to be the leader in connecting and educating the global engineering community.”
Key benefits to customers and end-users are three-fold:
1. A more streamlined, secure, and private means for students and faculty to access subscription resources using only institutional login credentials.
2. A significant reduction in workload for information resource managers who no longer have to manage additional authentication technologies unique to the service provider.
3. Simplification of management of identity and permissions (such as IP and username/ password) authentication for organizations supporting users and applications.
