As dad Homer Simpson might say, “doh!” found folks in Montana, followed by Maryland, Florida, Virginia and Nebraska, respectively, spent the most on dear old Dad last year, while those in Alaska, Delaware, Maine, New Mexico and South Dakota spent the least.

And, frugal fathers are probably extra proud of their kids in Montana, (and Idaho, Connecticut, New Jersey and Florida, too) for saving while they shop by earning more Cash Back than any other state.

"When you’re shopping for Dad, it’s smart to personalize your gift," says Lesley Kennedy, senior managing editor at "A new golf shirt, reservations at his favorite steak house, tickets to a ball game or a great summer book are all things he’ll appreciate. And, if you can get those things using online coupons and scoring Cash Back rewards? Even better.”

If you think you’re too late to shop online for Father’s Day, look for retailers who allow you to buy online and pick up in stores, Kennedy advises.

“Often, you can snag an unbeatable online-only deal, but, for last-minute shoppers who don’t want to pay express shipping fees, some stores will let you pick up the items at their brick-and-mortar locations,” she adds. “That’s win-win for everyone.”
