Tidewater Physical Therapy’s Newport News Performance Center will host a seven-week preseason prep program for football players designed to help them improve speed, agility, strength and power.
The summer camp ($210) kicks off June 16 and will run through August 1 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:20 to 7:20 p.m.
Players from 13 to 18-years-old are encouraged to attend.
Performance Coach Jamel Cooper will lead the program. Cooper, a quarterback for Georgia Southern University from 2010 to 2012, earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Cooper built the program to focus on the following core areas key to a football player’s success on the field:
-football specific skills, including speed, agility and reaction
-strength and conditioning to include Olympic lifts and plyometrics (jump training)
-change of direction cuts
