Renewable Choice Energy Partners with Telluride Bluegrass Festival for 12th Consecutive Year
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- For the 12th consecutive year, Colorado-based Renewable Choice Energy will provide emission reductions and green power in the form of wind power and carbon offsets to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. The Festival, celebrating its 41st anniversary this year, is a recognized leader in sustainable events.
Planet Bluegrass, the parent company of the Telluride Festival, has developed a reputation for leading voluntary environmental action. The company works to reduce energy consumption, emissions, and solid waste generation at all of its events. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging its more than 10,000 annual attendees to practice sustainability while at the events and at home.
This year, the Telluride Festival has purchased wind power in the form of renewable energy credits (RECs) and verified carbon emission reductions from Renewable Choice to offset 100% of the emissions created by the Festival, including attendee and artist travel.
“At Planet Bluegrass, we’ve been committed to reducing the effects of our festivals on the environment wherever possible and Renewable Choice has helped us understand and tackle our carbon impact along the way—it’s been a tremendous partnership,” said Steve Szymanski, Vice President of Planet Bluegrass.
Planet Bluegrass acquired its first RECs from Renewable Choice in 2003, making a voluntary decision to purchase wind power for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Since that time, their commitment to “sustainable festivation” has grown to include additional investments in renewable energy, carbon offsets, and sustainability strategy including an annual company-wide carbon footprint assessment, conducted with the help of Renewable Choice.
“Planet Bluegrass has been on the cutting edge of environmental leadership for more than a decade, and it’s inspiring to see the community of artists, sponsors, and Festivarians working to minimize their impacts as well,” said Quayle Hodek, CEO of Renewable Choice. “It has been a pleasure for us to be a Planet Bluegrass partner for another year, and we look forward to a continued and prosperous relationship with them in the future.”
