Oakland A’s and Little League Intermediate World Series Announce Renewal of Sponsorship Agreement
Livermore, CA (PRWEB) June 10, 2014 -- The Oakland Athletics and the Little League Intermediate World Series announced that the AL-West Division Champions are extending its sponsorship and renewing its commitment to the Little League Intermediate World Series through 2014.
“Little League athletes define commitment to excellence and we are proud to show our support for them as they represent the best that Little League has to offer,” stated Steve Fanelli, Executive Director of Ticket Sales & Operations at the Oakland Athletics. “With the 2014 Intermediate Little League World Series only months away, the Oakland Athletics will join all baseball fans in celebrating the success of Little League.”
The Athletics partnership with Little League spans decades of support and coincides with the organizations charter to support programs that help to improve the quality of life for people through the Bay Area.
“This is great news for the Little League Intermediate World Series,” said Dave Wetmore, World Series Tournament Director. “The A’s have a long history with Little League, and we are grateful for their continued support of Little League. The Oakland Athletics commitment will allow our athletes to compete to the very best of their ability, and that is what Little League is all about.”
In the inaugural event in 2013, over 36,000 people visited the remodeled Max Baer Park in Livermore, California. The inaugural Intermediate Little League World Series was seen as an overwhelming success. Ten (10) teams from around the world — including the local Pleasanton National team, five more U.S teams and four international teams — as well as families, fans and friends traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area for 19 games, which ended with the team from Japan defeating the Collier Township, PA team, 10 -1 to win the Championship game, before 6,650 fans.
In 2014, the Little League Intermediate World Series will expand to eleven (11) teams with a new team added that will represent the regional winner from Europe-Africa. The 2014 event will begin with a parade on Monday, July 28 at 6pm in Livermore; games begin on Tuesday, July 29 and the championship game will once again be covered on ESPN2 on Monday, August 4. The Intermediate Division began as a two-year pilot program, before becoming an official division in 2012. Players ages 11-13 are eligible to play in this Intermediate baseball league, which features a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot bases, also known as “50/70”.
Little League Baseball, founded in 1939 in Williamsport PA, will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year.
