In the day time events, athletes will compete in categories such as kungfu forms, weapons, light contact as well as continuous sport sparring and limited youth light Kung Fu Sanshou. The main event that night is a search for the best Kung Fu and Karate competitors in the western hemisphere.

Participants will demonstrate their skills in the ancient oriental fighting styles of Shaolin Sanda or Sanshou like those seen in the Bruce Lee Kung Fu movie classic “Enter the Dragon.”

The event is presented by the Shaolin Institute in cooperation with Kung Fu Sanshou Federation (KSF) and Shaolin World Federation (SWF) under Shaolin Chan Foundation (SCF) along with numerous other organizations.

Event sponsor, Shaolin Institute focuses on personal enlightenment and education to guide each individual into higher level of consciousness in connection with cosmic intelligence.

Since the early 90s, the US Open International Martial Arts Championship and US Open Challenge have showcased many world-class competitive martial arts fighters, including several superstars who started their careers here in Mobile.

Over 20 international teams from Europe, Asia, Africa and America have all participated in the US Open International Martial Arts Championships in Mobile and other southern cities of the US.

Event founder Shi DeRu commented, “The US Open Challenge promises not just an exciting Kung Fu fight in the ring, but also martial artists of all styles, amateur or future professional competitors a chance to express and test themselves and their Kung Fu and Karate skills and make friends at the same time in sportsmanship.”
