Mobile Civic Center will host the 24th US Open Challenge & K. Superstar Search sponsored by Shaolin Institute and sanctioned by KSF on June 14

June 14 the Mobile Civic Center will host the 24th US Open Challenge and K. Superstar Search sponsored by Shaolin Institute and sanctioned by KSF (Kung Fu Sanshou Foundation).

In the day time events, athletes will compete in categories such as kungfu forms, weapons, light contact as well as continuous sport sparring and limited youth light Kung Fu Sanshou. The main event that night is a search for the best Kung Fu and Karate competitors in the western hemisphere.

Participants will demonstrate their skills in the ancient oriental fighting styles of Shaolin Sanda or Sanshou like those seen in the Bruce Lee Kung Fu movie classic “Enter the Dragon.”

The event is presented by the Shaolin Institute in cooperation with Kung Fu Sanshou Federation (KSF) and Shaolin World Federation (SWF) under Shaolin Chan Foundation (SCF) along with numerous other organizations.

Event sponsor, Shaolin Institute focuses on personal enlightenment and education to guide each individual into higher level of consciousness in connection with cosmic intelligence.

KSF is under Shaolin Chan Foundation which is a non-profit organization promoting and teaching Zen conscious living for freedom of the mind and body.

Shaolin Institute is led by founder and headmaster of the institute, Grandmaster Shi DeRu also known as Shawn X. Liu. More than 20 years ago, Shi DeRu brought Tai Gong, Shaolin Ultimate Sanda and traditional Shaolin-Tai Chi Sanshou to the U.S., opening schools and training students throughout the country.

Pan America’s first International Kung Fu Sanshou event was officially launched 20 years ago on June 6, 1994 in Mobile as US Open International Chinese Martial Arts Championship. Since the early 90s, the US Open International Martial Arts Championship and US Open Challenge have showcased many world-class competitive martial arts fighters, including several superstars who started their careers here in Mobile.

Over 20 international teams from Europe, Asia, Africa and America have all participated in the US Open International Martial Arts Championships in Mobile and other southern cities of the US.

Event founder Shi DeRu commented, “The US Open Challenge promises not just an exciting Kung Fu fight in the ring, but also martial artists of all styles, amateur or future professional competitors a chance to express and test themselves and their Kung Fu and Karate skills and make friends at the same time in sportsmanship.”

This year’s event begins with a 9:45 am opening ceremony and concludes with an award presentation at 8:30 p.m.
