While Dr. Ayl has a wide range of veterinary experience, his Board Certifications in Medical and Radiation Oncology are significant boosts to ASG’s Elite Specialty Team.

About Dr. Ayl
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Dr. Rodney Ayl received his formal veterinary training at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort, Republic of South Africa, before returning to his home country to practice and work on large animals. After moving to the United States, Dr. Ayl first worked in a mixed animal practice in upstate New York, following this experience with an Internship in small animal medicine and surgery in New York City. After his Internship, Dr. Ayl completed a Medical Oncology Residency program at The Ohio State University and subsequently achieved separate Board Certifications in Medical and Radiation Oncology from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the American College of Veterinary Radiology, respectively.
Providing Medical and Radiation Oncology services in Southern California for over 20 years, Dr. Ayl will be returning to the Animal Specialty Group for the after an 8 year hiatus, having served as an ASG team member from 1993-2006.
In addition to his veterinary practice, Dr. Ayl has lectured internationally on topics related to cancer treatment in domestic animals and authored numerous articles regarding Oncology, which have appeared in peer-reviewed academic journals and reference books. Previously having served on the Public Relations Committees of both the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Dr. Ayl currently sits on the Medical Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Zoo and works with a Grief Support Group to ensure the well-being of people faced with their pet’s cancer diagnosis.
His diverse contributions to the Veterinary Community also include providing consultation services to Veterinarians as well as participating in clinical trials of new treatment options for people and their pets. He is a member of the Veterinary Cancer Society, Veterinary Cooperative Oncology Group, and the Veterinary Radiation Therapy Oncology Group.
