iPowow ‘Participation TV’ to Contribute to Golf Channel’s Live From the U.S. Open Programming
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- iPowow’s Participation TV platform will be utilized by Golf Channel this week to engage its viewers in real-time during Live From the U.S. Open, the network’s live programming originating on-site from the 114th U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
Using any smartphone or second screen, viewers will be prompted by Golf Channel personalities to go to GolfChannel.com/vote, where they can answer poll questions on a variety of topics. Viewers can then track the results, second by second, on the television broadcast, as they are revealed within the live telecast.
Golf Channel began using iPowow’s Participation TV platform in May during the week of The Players Championship, and uses it regularly on Golf Central – Golf Channel’s daily evening news program.
“Golf has a large and passionate fan-base, eager to offer opinions on the game’s players and storylines,” said Gavin Douglas, CCO, iPowow. “Participation TV puts the power in the viewer’s hands, giving them the ability to interact with Golf Channel’s on-air personalities in real-time to help shape the U.S. Open conversation during one of golf’s biggest weeks.”
The U.S. Open is the second of four men’s major golf championships played each year. The tournament had golf’s second most-watched final round of 2013 – second only to the Masters – with 8.4 million average viewers tuning in, peaking at around 13.7 million average viewers.
iPowow is leading the global charge in Participation TV by giving television producers and advertisers the power to engage directly with the viewers. By empowering the viewers to affect the results live on-air, iPowow is achieving engagement rates of over 10%, compared to the industry average of 1%.
