Surf n’ Stream Campground, Toms River, New Jersey
Toms River, NJ (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- Those little insects we love to hate are back for the summer and carrying a scary virus with them. Mosquitos are the culprit for the spreading of the West Nile Virus, which has already infected people in California, Arizona and Wisconsin. Residents in those areas as well as outdoor enthusiasts planning their camping or hiking trips this season are warned to take various precautions.
Upon going outdoors in wooded areas, adventurers are urged to take safety measures including: eliminating stagnant water around the home or campsite, wear long sleeve shirts or pants when hiking, secure screen doors and windows, apply insect repellant to exposed skin and clothing.
According to the State of New Jersey West Nile Virus Encephalitis Fact Sheet, West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne viral disease, which can cause an inflammation of the brain. Symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, skin rash and swollen lymph glands. Eighty percent of people who are infected by WNV do not have any symptoms. Visit a doctor if any of these symptoms appear.
