Shmoop Encourages Summer Learning With Courses and Math Shack
Mountain View, California (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- Keeping students’ brains sharp over the summer is no easy task, but Shmoop, a digital publishing company with over 10 million unique visitors a month, is ready for the challenge. With hundreds of thousands of pages of free learning resources, students can spend their summers soaking up more than just the sun.
And now, Shmoop has two new offerings to make summer engagement even easier.
For the bookworms of the bunch, Shmoop provides short courses on novels, including The Great Gatsby, Frankenstein, Animal Farm, and over a dozen more. Students can take these Common Core-aligned courses on their own, using Shmoop’s lessons to guide them through their summer reading; or they can take them with a tutor or teacher, who can track their progress and help keep them on task.
If students are less into reading for school and more into learning for fun (gasp!), Shmoop also offers fun courses that will keep students’ critical thinking neurons firing: courses on Breaking Bad, Bruce Springsteen, How to Read Comics, Pop Culture Literacy, and the History of Technology will engage any student looking to expand their summer horizons.
For the mathletes of the crew, Shmoop offers Math Shack: free and infinite (literally infinite!) math drills with questions on Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry. Math Shack tracks students’ progress, so they’ll know which concepts they’ve mastered and which they need to brush up on before next school year begins; and since each drill is aligned to the Common Core, teachers can be 100% sure that students have covered every necessary Standard. Shmoop suggests that teachers even create contests with Shmoints (Shmoop’s virtual currency) to make sure students have a reason to keep Shmooping over the summer. Talk about a win-win situation.
