American South Has Worst Dental Hygiene in the Nation
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- A recent Gallup poll found that annual dental visits are least common in the American South: only 60% of Southerners reported visiting a dentist in the previous 12 months. At Charlotte Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, top Charlotte cosmetic dentist Dr. Patrick J. Broome, DMD, noted that skipping dental check-ups can contribute to tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease.
“Recent statistics show that at least half of all Americans suffer from periodontal disease,” said Dr. Broome, “Periodontal disease is actually more prevalent than the common cold.”
According to Gallup, the 60% of Southern adults who visited the dentist in 2013 is essentially unchanged from the 61% who visited the dentist in 2008. Despite somewhat more favorable economic conditions, and an increasingly health-conscious culture, Southerners are just not visiting the dentist as often as they should. “Unfortunately, most people are afraid of the dentist,” lamented Dr. Broome, “But they don’t have to be.”
At Charlotte Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Broome focuses on patient comfort and relaxation. Unlike most Charlotte dental offices, Dr. Broome offers a comfortable waiting lounge for patients to rest before their treatment. Patients can even indulge in a complimentary paraffin hot wax hand therapy session before their visit. Once ensconced in the treatment suite, patients find flat-screen LED TVs mounted over their chairs, and are offered noise-cancelling BOSE headphones for their enjoyment. Most importantly, Dr. Broome offers sedation treatment and laser dentistry at no additional charge.
“Going to the dentist does not have to be a miserable experience,” said Dr. Broome. “We want our patients to look forward to visiting us so they will visit often and maintain great oral health.”
