Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks to Deliver Keynote Address at California Southern University Graduation
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) June 12, 2014 -- California Southern University has announced that Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks will deliver the keynote address at the university’s 36th annual commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at The Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, California.
Chief Seabrooks is an innovative and nationally recognized leader in law enforcement. She has developed a widely acclaimed cultural competencies program and lectures on the topic to audiences around the country. She also addresses police executives nationwide on topics ranging from crisis communications to risk management, in addition to teaching criminal justice courses at the collegiate level.
Chief Seabrooks’ career has spanned nearly three decades and she has succeeded in virtually every role in law enforcement. A true trailblazer, she was the first woman to serve as a sergeant at SMPD, the first to be promoted to lieutenant and, later, captain. She also was the first woman to be named chief of police in Inglewood, California—where she served from 2007-2012, during which time the city’s crime rates dropped to mid-1970s levels—as well as the first to take the helm of SMPD in May 2012.
Other highlights of the commencement ceremony will include the presentation of the 2014 CalSouthern Difference Award, the President’s Award for Doctoral Project Excellence, and the naming of the university’s Faculty Mentor of the Year, all in addition to honoring CalSouthern’s graduating class of 2014.
Members of the media and the public are invited to attend this year’s ceremony. Admission is complimentary. Details and registration information are available online.
