Speaking at a New America Foundation roundtable with journalists, Salinas asked for free mobility of people in addition to goods and capital among NAFTA countries, said North America should further advance on joining forces to effectively face large external competitive challenges.

Grupo Salinas, (, a group of dynamic companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries in which they operate announced that its chairman, Ricardo Salinas, talked about the need for an integrated North America – which entails free mobility of people, in addition to the movement of goods and capital between the U.S., Canada and Mexico – at a roundtable organized by the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C.

At the event, Mr. Salinas expressed that the idea presented by New America of a North American passport, which will allow citizens of all three countries to travel, work, invest, learn and innovate anywhere in North America, is a wonderful initiative and that a comprehensive immigration reform would help determine the overall competitiveness of North America on the global stage.

Mr. Salinas stressed the fact that NAFTA has positively changed the region, as the nation’s economies are highly complementary, and that North America should further advance on joining forces in order to compete globally.

Mr. Salinas was in conversation with Anne-Marie Slaughter – President and CEO of the New America Foundation – and an audience of 30 journalists, discussing the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Mexico and the direction of the region in the next 20 years of NAFTA.

“The United States, Canada, and Mexico are bound by a shared economic, environmental, demographic, and cultural destiny,” said Dr. Slaughter, “and the future well-being of all North Americans depends on our mutual recognition of this fact.”
