Harbor Village Detox Center Comments on Classroom Heroin Incident
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) June 13, 2014 -- As reported by Philadelphia.cbslocal.com in the article, 20 Students Taken To Hospital After First Grader Brings Heroin To School (6/11), The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia treated 20 6- and 7-year olds after one of their classmates brought heroin into the classroom. The student, who attends Commodore John Barry Elementary School, allegedly brought 11 packs of heroin into their first grade classroom. Police were contacted after the teacher noticed one of the students with the drugs. Upon further discovery, two of the packs were opened and one had been chewed. As a safety precaution, the students were checked out and none were harmed. Detectives are currently interviewing the mother of the child who brought the heroin in.
"Heroin is a very dangerous drug, even in small amounts," said the head of Harbor Village Detox, a luxury drug addiction rehab facility in Southern Florida. “Even the smallest dose can cause health complications and be fatal, especially in young children whose bodies are smaller. We commend this school for taking quick, swift action in regards to the welfare of the students. Another moral of this story is that heroin use can negatively affect the lives of those who aren't even directly doing it. Although the facts surrounding this story have not yet surfaced, we would like to make a general reminder that it can be very easy for children to get into heroin when their parents are doing it. We encourage anybody who is a current heroin user to seek help as soon as possible.”
