Cedar Falls, IA (PRWEB) June 16, 2014 -- More than two dozen students are jump starting their careers through internships at CBE Companies (CBE) this summer.
The wave of interns serves in a range of fields, from data analysis and information technology to finance, human resources and marketing. All 26 interns will be paid.
CBE has a tradition of finding talented young people through the internship program and later providing them full-time employment opportunities. While all interns gain valuable experience to propel their careers, CBE has typically hired about 20 percent to permanent positions.
Interns range from college sophomores through college graduates and come from the University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa, Iowa State University and Hawkeye Community College.
Most interns will have specific projects for the summer that give them on the job training in their field of study. The projects interns will complete include:
• Research to improve call center efficiency
• Developing historical industry financial data
• Developing applications
• Marketing a new product
• Project management
• Developing data management policies
• Developing testing automation for applications
• Graphic design for advertising campaign
• Coordinating company culture campaign
• Detailed 401k analysis
• Developing comprehensive list of assets
• Assist in maintenance of workforce management system
• Developing analytics reports
Zhaowei Zheng is a University of Iowa student slated to graduate in December with a triple major in mathematics, actuarial science and computer science. He’s working on a project for CBE’s Information Technology department to refine and automate tasks for a server. Once completed, the server will help make CBE’s application developers more efficient.
“It’s a great project. When we’re done we will have created productive software that will increase the whole department’s productivity,” Zheng said.
Of course, all work and no play makes for a boring summer. CBE will mix things up for the interns, as they will each participate in two outside activities for fun and teambuilding. In addition, interns will have an opportunity to pay it forward through a service day coordinated with the Volunteer Center of the Cedar Valley.
“We’re a growing company. That growth provides us the opportunity to expand our internship program with practical, challenging hands-on projects for students,”Mary Phillips, CBE’s Chief Human Resources Officer, said. “CBE invests in its employees to help them grow as people, and we do the same with interns through community service days to give back to the community.”
