Representatives from the Gilbane McKissack Joint Venture will be on hand at the Annual Metro NY/NJ Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Awards Banquet at the Yale Club of New York City to accept this award in the category of projects greater than $150 million.
“The Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility was a meaningful project for Gilbane, and we are honored to be acknowledged by the CMAA for our efforts. Though a challenging project, it was a rewarding one in that the entire team worked together to meet the needs and overcome complexities of the project,” said William J. Gilbane III, senior vice president of Gilbane Building Company. “Through an innovative form of Integrated Project Delivery and excellent team collaboration, we were able to turn a 36-month construction schedule into 18 months, resulting in the construction of one of New York City’s most modern healthcare centers where the uniquely welcoming environment reflects the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation’s commitment to partnering quality healthcare with quality of life for its patients and residents. Both Gilbane and McKissack have over 100 years of building experience, including many years of working together, and this depth of experience is evidenced by the success of this project and through this prestigious award.”
“I am thrilled and honored that the Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility, an important and long-awaited project in the Harlem community, has received this prestigious award from the CMAA” said Cheryl McKissack Daniel, President and CEO of McKissack & McKissack. “Our round the clock efforts and collaboration with the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation (NYC HHC), the New York Economic Development Corporation (NYC EDC), and Gilbane Building Company were vital to the successful completion of the state-of-the-art medical facility that will provide disabled and medically fragile patients with the ability to regain independence and maintain a better quality of life for years to come. It was a privilege to play an integral role in the construction of this beautiful new facility in East Harlem.”
The Gilbane McKissack Joint Venture provided Construction Management services for the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation (HHC) on the Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility. Opened to patients and residents in late 2013, the facility is managed by the HHC and was built to increase access to long-term care and nursing services for patients with disabilities. Building features include 24/7 acute care services, a skilled nursing facility and numerous resources designed to improve quality of life for its patients.
The CMAA Project of the Year Award recognizes projects that demonstrate exemplary use of Construction Management techniques and services. During the 21st Annual Metro NY/NJ CMAA Awards Banquet, awardees will be honored as well as college scholarships presented to several outstanding local Construction Management students.
