Historic Post Office in Downtown Modesto Gets New Lease on Life
Modesto, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- On June 3, 2011, after seventy eight years of being occupied, downtown Modesto’s historic El Viejo building closed its doors to the public. Three years later, almost to the day, eight lawyers and nine staff members will call the building home as the old post becomes the law offices of McCormick Barstow LLP.
Renovation on El Viejo began in January of 2014, after it was sold to a local investment group, Finch Fund LLC. The building’s 8,000 SF main floor has been transformed into one of Modesto’s finest office environments with an exquisite lobby and Class A finishes throughout. “We took great care in renovating El Viejo as it is not only on the National Register of Historic Places, but also a great community asset with its rich architecture of the 1930’s," said Tom Hogan, co-owner of the building. "Historic buildings have stories to tell about the community and how it became what it is. Preserving these stories is an important part of Modesto’s culture and heritage,” added Modesto born co-owner Mimi Cook. The owners plan on investing additional capital in renovating the ground level and second floor and creating office space for other tenants.
The lobby will be open to the public and McCormick Barstow welcomes visitors to stop by and enjoy the public murals – some of the finest Depression Era WPA murals in the region. “McCormick Barstow is excited to relocate and to be a visible entity in the heart of downtown. The building's architecture is like no other in Modesto, and we are proud to be the first tenants to move in and breathe new life into this historic landmark,” said Jeffrey Olson, Chair of the Modesto office.
