Swiss Post Solutions (SPS), an industry leader in business process outsourcing and digitization solutions, celebrated the graduation of its most recent and largest group of interns to complete the SPS Leadership Academy. Last week, 38 individuals successfully completed the rigorous, 12-week development program, providing them with training and leadership skills that enable them to exceed expectations of the job requirements for positions to further escalate their careers.
Founded in 2010, the SPS Leadership Academy is a highly interactive internship program that provides experiential training and job opportunities for pre-screened candidates in the New York and Washington DC areas. The program focuses on developing these qualified interns into high-performing personnel. The course includes weekly classroom instruction, applied skills training, as well as professional and leadership development.
According to the Center for American Progress, young Americans are unemployed at a rate of 16.5%, more than twice the national average. Additionally, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that there are 10.6 million Americans under age 25 who are either under-employed or jobless, making it imperative for this segment of the population to gain a competitive edge through practical training.
Paul Ortega, National Director of Training and Organizational Development at SPS, noted that this year’s Academy class had over 800 students apply for only a handful of coveted positions. “Our application process is very selective, and we accept the most motivated and ambitious individuals for this opportunity. Throughout the course, our students have gained valuable work experience within many job functions and industries, including Fortune 500 companies – which will prove to be an excellent differentiator for these individuals. We coach all of our interns to be leaders, no matter their position within the company,” he added.
In addition to the Internship Academy, SPS also promotes internal training initiatives to its employees, and most recently delivered the “Leadership for Growth” program to all 1,500 SPS employees nationwide.
