Crowd-sourced Official Canada Day App Launched for All Canadians
Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) June 17, 2014 -- Purple Forge released the Official Canada Day app for all Canadians celebrating both at home and abroad. The app was designed with a crowd-sourced approach to collect Canada Day event websites and display them in the application. Included with the schedules are a Canada Day-themed selfie postcard feature, a comparative survey to rank the things most people associate with Canada, and a location sharing button to share where you are partying with your friends.
The crowd-sourcing component was developed to allow government and affiliated NGOs to send in their mobile optimized Canada Day website URLs for inclusion in the application. Crowd-sourcing is a major component of the Government of Canada’s Open Government initiative, one that challenges Canadian companies and individuals to leverage the information of government for the benefit of all Canadians. The Official Canada Day mobile application embraces those principals to provide an inclusive and open mobile application on Canada’s birthday.
“Canada Day is a celebration for Canadians both at home and around the world,” said Brian Hurley, CEO of Purple Forge. “This unified mobile app will help to bring Canadians together wherever they are to celebrate our great Country.”
The application is downloadable from the Apple iTunes store and is supported in both English and French.
