Throw Down for a Cause Announces Biggest, Messiest Event Ever to Benefit Homeless, LGBT, and At-Risk Youth
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 19, 2014 -- The idea of organizing a wild and fun evening of Jell-O wrestling to benefit homeless, LGBT and at-risk youth may sound like something crazy, but in the last 4 years it's been proven to be crazy in only the best ways. Enter Throw Down for a Cause (TD4AC), founded in 2010 with a kiddie pool and a few bags of Jell-O that's since gained so much momentum it's become one on the highlights of many socially conscious fun lover's summers. This year's event, their fifth, is scheduled for July 11th and the safe bet is that it will be the biggest, baddest and messiest throw down yet.
“Throw Down for a Cause was born out of a desire to do something different, something impactful but fun for our city,” commented Tracey Minutolo, Co-Founder and 2014 Event Chair, Throw Down for a Cause. “We really believe that everyone out there is just waiting for a way to help others. We wanted to provide a memorable and unique way for them to do that.”
So far the event has raised over $20,000 in the last four Throw Downs. In addition to the theatrical thrills of the wrestling matches, a live DJ and MC are all also part of the fun.
This year's event is hosted by comedian Julie Goldman and will be held on July 11th at Rich's Nightclub in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego.
TD4AC has set a goal of raising $25,000 on June 11th and all proceeds raised go directly to local organizations that provide outstanding services and programming for at-risk, homeless and LGBT youth. The organization is entirely volunteer run as a way for people who care to give back to their communities and directly have a positive effect on the lives of people who truly need it most.
Two of the organizations benefiting from this year's Throw Down are Project LOL (Love Out Loud) a group that provides weekly creative workshops for homeless teens and the San Diego LGBT Center's Sunburst Youth Housing Project, a residential facility that provides vital support for young homeless people between the ages of 18 and 24.
To say local supporters and the organizations benefiting from Throw Down for a Cause 2014 are enthusiastic is an understatement.
Daniel Love, Co-Founder and President of Project LOL (Love Out Loud) 501(c)(3) recently said, “Throw Down for a Cause has had such a tremendous impact on providing homeless teens here in San Diego with fun and exciting activities on a weekly basis. With the money they have brought to our organization we have been able to provide a plethora of cool and fun projects that would not have been possible otherwise. We are honored to be a beneficiary of all their hard work and efforts.”
