Small Town Living Gets a Jolt With a Bright LED Sign from Advantage LED
Sour Lake, TX (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- The city of Sour Lake, located in the deep southeast region of Texas, has a rich history that stretches back to the mid 1830’s. A common resting stop for the legendary Sam Houston, the city is proud to be an early oil boomtown location due to the discovery of the nearby Spindletop salt dome. Texaco was founded here back in 1903, as were two others that have since been swallowed up by bigger companies. Home to only a couple of thousand souls, the downtown shops and governmental facilities are housed in ornate and well-worn structures. Proud of their past and confident in their future, the townsfolk enjoy a peaceful and quiet existence. They are used to life there.
Until now. There’s a bright new beacon right in the center of town that no one really knows how to adjust to.
When City Manager Larry Saurage decided that the town needed a new method of communicating with the civilians, he began to search around on the internet for a reasonable solution. He knew that he wanted a monument sign built outside of the police station, and he wanted a digital board like the one in front of the First Baptist Church down the street. Every time he drove by the church he couldn’t help but notice the full-color LED sign announcing the next event. So when Saurage came across Advantage LED Signs based a few miles down the highway in Houston, he decided to give them a call.
He was impressed with the fact that Advantage had installed several community LED signs previously, and he thought the price was reasonable. No city permit was needed, of course, so installation took place a short time after the city wrote a check. They went with a 4’ x 8’ 12.5 mmm iPixel 96x192 iMatrix high definition product.
The ease and efficiency of the proprietary content creation software (SM Infinity) was so profound that the town didn’t even bother to undergo the training process.
“It’s working fine,” remarked Sergeant Norman Theriot about the sign outside his station. “We enjoy it!”
The content being used was provided by Advantage LED Signs at the time of install, and they alternate between those slides and updated messages specific to community events. The only issue that’s come up was a malfunction with the on-board thermometer, which was fixed within a day.
“Whenever we have a question about the sign that needs answering they’ve (Advantage LED) always been real good about giving us help.”
As far as the public’s perception of the new digital message board, comments have been overwhelmingly positive. The local elementary school has even decided to contact Advantage LED for their own sign.
“I suppose the only thing about the sign is that everybody’s trying to get used to it,” chuckles Sgt. Theriot. “And that’s alright.”
