June 17, 2014 -- Delia Associates established the scholarship in memory of Michael A. Delia, who founded Delia Associates in 1964, and also in recognition of the firm’s 50th year in business. It was designated for North Hunterdon High School seniors who were planning a college path in marketing or communications technology.
Ms. Slusar received the $5,000 scholarship, which will help fund her tuition to Bucknell University. Ms.Slusar was recognized for this achievement at the annual North Hunterdon High School Senior Awards Night Assembly on June 5. Present at the ceremonies were Ed Delia, President of Delia Associates, his mother Angela Delia and his sister Carol Hollingsworth. Both Ed Delia and Carol are North Hunterdon High School alumni.
“Many outstanding candidates applied, however, Jenna stood out,” commented Ed Delia, son of the late Michael A. Delia. “Her submission was all around impressive, in terms of academics, athletics and volunteerism. She has done and continues to do, considerable work in support of special needs children.” Notably, Ms. Slusar identified her most rewarding activity as her involvement in coaching the Hunterdon Huskies Contenders, a cheer leading squad for special needs girls, which received nationwide acclaim late last year, and was featured on NBC.
“What resonated with us most in Jenna’s application was her essay, where she connected a clear passion to serve special needs kids with an emerging passion for communications technology,” added Ed Delia. The final passage in her application essay reads:
“The opportunity to work so closely with special needs children, has opened my eyes to the obstacles they face on a daily basis. I believe that many of these obstacles can be overcome or lessened with technology. I believe that technology can make a difference in so many ways for these children – applications that can help them learn, help them be more mobile or even just make them laugh to brighten their day.”
“To have the ability to already articulate so powerful a vision at this stage of her life is remarkable in and of itself. We believe Jenna will do exceptionally well at Bucknell and beyond and we are grateful to contribute to the next steps of what will no doubt be an amazing journey for her,” Ed Delia concluded.
