World Cup Craze Results in Growing Number of Broken Noses

World Cup Fever is gripping the nation, and watching pros like Cristiano Ronaldo strut their stuff on the field may tempt many of us to get out there and play soccer. But think twice before you go in for that header. A new study from the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open® calls attention to the danger of facial injuries and fractures among soccer players.

Both amateurs and pros are at high risk. Just Monday Clint Dempsey from Team USA took a kick to the face in the game against Ghana, resulting in a suspected broken nose. This injury is common among soccer players, and a growing number of weekend warriors are experiencing similar injuries as soccer mania sweeps the nation.

New York City facial plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty expert Sam Rizk, MD, FACS has a great deal of experience evaluating and treating broken noses including those that occur as a result of a soccer injury.

Dr. Rizk is recognized for his groundbreaking work with 3D High Definition technology, which allows for a more precise surgery with drastically reduced scarring and recovery time with a highly natural-looking result.

Dr. Rizk developed the advanced surgical technology to better visualize the structures of the nose and perform a more accurate and less invasive surgery. The increased control results in a more efficient procedure that requires no stitches, less bruising and scarring and one-third the recovery time of traditional surgeries.

The use of this system provides a precise view of the interior nasal area by inserting a telescope that is connected to an imaging system. With this enhanced view, Dr. Rizk can avoid disrupting blood vessels, muscles, and other sensitive tissues so there is less bruising and swelling, which promotes a quicker recovery. Because of increased visibility, the surgery is also more direct and allows for greater precision, as tissue is not distorted by swelling during the procedure.

Dr. Rizk’s office is located at 1040 Park Avenue in Manhattan.
