Ping4 Inc. Presents ping4alerts! At 2014 Massachusetts Technology Leadership Awards
Nashua, New Hampshire (PRWEB) June 18, 2014 -- The Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council (MassTLC) is the region's leading technology association and the premier network for technology executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and policy leaders.
Each year, MassTLC hosts the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Awards, the most prestigious technology awards program in the Commonwealth. There are sixteen award categories and ping4alerts! has been nominated for mobile application of the year. This award recognizes an innovative technology that has had a significant impact on the company, customer, and/or market in the category of mobile applications.
"Because Boston is recognized as a technology hub for brilliant innovation and progressive entrepreneurship, being nominated by MassTLC for mobile application of the year is a great honor, said Mark Sexton, VP of Engineering. "Ping4alerts! has made significant progress over the past two years thanks to the engineering team adding new features, making functionality improvements, and responding to customer feedback."
Ping4alerts! is a free iOS and Android app that uses the location-based technology inherent in today's smartphones to deliver push notifications within a highly-localized area. Using any web-based browser, an agency or organization can draw a shape on a map as small as a building or as large as the country to push a notification to mobile devices. Not only is ping4alerts! able to deliver these alerts solely based on a user's location, but it does so anonymously. Users are not required to provide any personally identifiable information such as a name, home or email address.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency was the first agency to adopt the platform and it was utilized during high-profile events such as Hurricane Sandy, Winter Storm Nemo, and the Boston Marathon Manhunt in Watertown. It is also used by the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, Dukes County Emergency Management Agency, and the town of Nantucket. The Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Lowell Spinners, and the Harvard Square Business Association have also adopted ping4alerts! to send highly-targeted notifications to patrons.
Since the initial release, the company's engineering team has enhanced the product to include features beneficial to emergency management agencies such as Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) capabilities and social media integration. On the end-user side, ping4alerts! offers free NOAA weather alerts. The app also includes a map-based feature showing precisely where sex offenders live, their name, physical description, photograph, and qualifying offenses in proximity to the user's current location. Users can set watched locations for other, fixed locations such as home, school, and work.
"The value of ping4alerts! is its ability to deliver urgent and pertinent information to our users based solely on location," said Norm Archer, VP of Marketing. "The product performed well through events such as Hurricane Sandy and the Boston Marathon Manhunt, which earned us recognition in the public safety space. With the technology's capabilities, we are now exploring other options such as integrating our location services API with existing applications."
Ping4alerts! is free to download from the App Store or Google Play.
