Founder and Owner Ron Mickel Assumes Chairman of the Board

Nationwide framing and art printing company American Frame announced that, effective July 1, 2014, Ron Mickel, the company’s owner and founder, will be assuming the role of Chairman of the Board. Mickel has appointed his daughter, Laura Jajko, as President and his daughter Dana Dunbar as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

“I’m turning 81 this year,” Mikel said, “and it’s time to pass the baton to the next generation. My daughters, Laura and Dana, have each worked at American Frame for over 25 years. They possess the exceptional talents, experience and judgment necessary to lead the company to a successful future in a very competitive environment.”

Mickel made a point of thanking his employees, a team based in Maumee, Ohio. “We have a dedicated and productive staff here at American Frame and we are successful today because of them.”

Mickel started American Frame in 1973 out of his Ohio garage, cutting aluminum frame sections to order. In the 40 years since, he and his daughters have expanded the business into one of the country’s leading suppliers of custom picture frames, mat board, framing supplies and fine art printing. In the new era of digital photography and art, they’ve become a comprehensive visual arts provider. Customers can upload images for printing and framing and working artists can open a free online art gallery to sell work, which the company professionally prints and frames.

“Things are moving fast and changing a lot with the new technology. Laura and Dana are right there, at the cutting edge. I’m very proud of them, and entirely confident American Frame will continue to grow and innovate with their leadership.”

Laura Jajko, the new President, is also head of sales and marketing, which makes her the point person for being out in front of changes in the market. “That’s what makes my job exciting,” Jajko says. “The online framing tool, the new website we launched this year, our emphasis on green manufacturing, like FSC-certified wood for our frames and participation in carbon offset programs, these are all examples of how we’ve broken new ground and will continue to do so.”
