Masses to Gather in Los Angeles in Support of Iranian Political Prisoners
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 19, 2014 -- On Friday, June 20th, 2014 - The New Iran (TNI) joins with the Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) to stage a demonstration to raise awareness about the dire conditions for political prisoners in Iran. The International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran event will be held on the lawn of the Federal Building in Los Angeles at 11000 Wilshire Boulevard at 6:30PM. Attendees will light candles to honor the fallen and recite the names of the brave political prisoners currently incarcerated in Iran.
The goal of the International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran is to be the voice of the men and women currently suffering from the inhumane conditions in the prisons of Iran. This year is extremely important because we believe the Islamic regime is now denying medical care in order to execute political prisoners.
According to the March 2013 United Nations report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, “The Special Rapporteur also continues to be alarmed by the rate of executions in the country, especially for crimes that do not meet serious crimes standards, and especially in the face of allegations of widespread and ongoing torture for the purposes of soliciting confessions from the accused. …the Human Rights Council is constrained by a lack of meaningful cooperation, by its intransigent position on the existence of human rights violations in the country, and by de jure and de facto practices that undermine its international and national human rights obligations.” Source: http://bit.ly/1nl5ZJw
Joining many concerned organizations around the world, The New Iran is sponsoring the Los Angeles demonstration to help raise awareness and educate people about the plight of political prisoners in Iran. Similar events will be held in many cities worldwide including London, Washington, D.C., Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, Oslo, Toronto, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Ankara.
Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) is a non-profit organization established in 2006 by a group of ex- political prisoners from Iran. There are thousands of people tortured, jailed and executed in Iran for speaking out against the Mullah regime and seeking freedom, truth and justice for their people and their country. TNI joins CFPPI in seeking the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran.

“This is an important event to raise awareness about the political prisoners issue and daily violations of human rights by the Islamic regime against its own people. What makes this year’s protests more important than past events, is the current P5+1 nuclear talks between the Mullah regime and the western democracies. Our goal is to make sure that the US and other P5+1 member countries tie any P5+1 agreement to the human rights conditions and specifically to the release of all political prisoners in Iran,” said Dr. Iman Foroutan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The New Iran.
