The Words of Wall Street: Recent Paintings by Sunny Volkert
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 24, 2014 -- ART MEDIA COLAB is pleased to announce an online exhibition of recent works by Los Angeles based artist Sunny Volkert. The exhibition will include eleven paintings from her series THE WORDS OF WALL STREET.
Between 2007 and 2011 Sunny lived in New York City where she was taken by the power and influence of the financial industry. THE WORDS OF WALL STREET is an artistic account of the vocabulary and slang she heard from numerous players in the industry that she came to meet and learn about during her time in Manhattan.
“I had a limited knowledge of dynamics of Wall Street. I grew up in Southern California, attended art school there, and later moved to New York City to be in the capital of the art world. I met quite a few people at events and social gatherings who worked in finance. I interacted with stockbrokers, traders, and executives of large hedge funds. I became more curious about what they do for a living and the type of personality it takes to work in such a power driven, intense, and competitive work environment.
These key players intrigued me. They have a unique personality type that is driven to achieve success, money, and power. An individual in this field has to be strong, confident, smart, a quick thinker, and charismatic to make deals happen. This is an inspiring rare breed: to be bright, charming, and never give up, even when the chips are down. Their persistence and determination is unwavering at times. They are extremely intelligent people with split second decision-making skills and the courage to take chances.
I am also fascinated by the amount of risk people take to invest. The game of calculated chance people play to make money, this sort of endless curiosity to predict the future of the market. There is a passion in investors that is relentless. It is a delicate dance of strategic analysis and gut instinct.
This series of paintings depicts a visual language of some of the terms I heard in conversation or read about in my own personal research while artistically exploring the world of finance.”
Sunny Volkert currently lives and works in Los Angeles and was born and raised in Southern California. She graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree and soon after pursued a career in the art industry. After ten years of working in Southern California and New York City as an Art Gallery Director, she now uses her knowledge and experience of the art world to engage in marketing and selling her recent works in the series THE WORDS OF WALL STREET.
