Fluendo Announces Partnership with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute

Fraunhofer HHI is part of Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization Fraunhofer. Under the terms of the partnership, Fluendo is acquiring Fraunhofer HHI’s industry-leading H.265 decoder in order to extend high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) support to its cross-platform multimedia ONEPLAY suite of solutions.
H.265/MPEG-HEVC is the new compression standard format for HD video playback, Ultra High Definition playback and beyond, a successor to the H.264/MPEG4-AVC video format. Fraunhofer HHI is one of the main contributors to the HEVC standard, which achieves a 50 percent bitrate reduction compared to H.264, all while maintaining the same subjective video quality.
